Check Out Pike Place Market and See the Famous Flying Dead Fish
What is Pike Place Market, you ask? Good question. Pike Place is an outdoor market right on the water in downtown Seattle. I guess you could consider a farmer’s market because there are all sorts of things sold there, with the majority consisting of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and some of the most gorgeous flowers you’ve ever seen.
One of the reasons I love visiting this famous market is that it is a photographers dream. The colors of the products being sold in each of the stands is nothing short of brilliant and you’ll love taking pictures of everything from the fruit to the street performers to the flying fish.
Flying fish?
Yep, the famous flying fish.
If you don’t know anything about the fame that Pike Place has received, you probably don’t know about its main attraction to both locals and tourists alike. This would be the Pike Place Fish Market. It’s here where crowds gather around and watch as people buy fish. Why? Because as soon as someone buys a fish, the fishmongers there will take that fish and throw it around to their fellow fishmongers who then wrap it up and deliver it to the customer.
It is certainly a site to behold and something that you will never forget. (In case you think you might, you can always buy one of the many Fish Market souvenirs.)
The fishmongers are very good at playing around with the fish and making sure everyone that is watching gets a good show. Sometimes the crowds get pretty big so you might have to jostle for a spot, but it will be well worth it.
So as you start planning your vacation to Seattle, don’t forget to visit the famous Pike Place Market and see dead fish flying overhead!
